Day 8...

Day 8 – a photo that makes you angry/sad

Ok, so I don't really have photos that make me angry. If I did I wouldn't keep them. Got to love the delete button with digital picture. No more ripping pictures in half or putting them in a coffee can (back when coffee cans were metal and not plastic) and burning the pictures.
So with that I guess I will go with a picture that makes me sad. And grab your tissue mom cause I know you'll need it. I need one and I haven't even pulled up the picture yet. The picture is of my grandfather and my son 'Ninja'. I named my son after my grandfather. Well, after his dad and my grandfather but we call him my grandfathers name. We moved to Japan while I was pregnant with him and almost didn't come home until the following year, so after my son would have turned 1. Long story short we had to come home in December of 2007. At the time I was mad that I had to spend all that money but now all the money in the world could not take back those days my son got to spend with his great-grandfather and namesake.

Here come the tears...

You see my grandfather died in May of 2008 so he only got to meet his great-grandson that one time. I am sad that these are the only pictures my son will have of him and his name sake. That my son will not know what a great man my grandfather was. Will not hear the same stories over and over again like we all did growing up. :)

I do know though that whenever my son is being a 'boy' and I mean really acting out that my grandfather is watching and laughing at me. I know that when my son is being stubborn and misbehaving it has a little something to do with his name.

  1. Don't worry about the stories, for my birthday, Mamau compiled all the stories that he wrote into a bound book. She made one for your Uncle too. He just won't hear them, but he can read them.

  2. My youngest is named for my mom who died 13 days before she was born. Its hard. My heart aches that I'll not ever have a photo of them. Treasure the one you have, and keep your grampas memory alive by telling the stories over and over again yourself. <3
